EVERY MOVEMENT MATTERS
Every time you stand up, it is estimated you use 100 muscles. You also complete the equivalent of a leg squat by standing. Standing up every 20 minutes also reduces the effect of sitting down too much.
If you could stand 3 times an hour during 10 hours every day, you would complete nearly 11000 leg squats!
THE BENEFIT OF WALKING
The recent pandemic has made everyone aware how important it is to ensure we have a healthy immune system.
We also know that it has not gone away and may well come back especially during the Autumn and Winter.
Regularly going for a walk helps immune cells perform effectively by increasing blood flow, reducing stress and inflammation, and strengthening antibodies.
And, of course, it means getting outside in the sunshine. This boosts our Vitamin D levels which also helps our immune system.

Creating an Active Summertime
At the same time, it is important to remember to protect yourself.
Children and adults should wear proper sun protection, especially when the sun is at its strongest between 11am and 3pm. Spend a little more time in the shade during these times and check for burning.
Use at least factor 30 sunscreen.
SMALL STEPS, EVEN BIGGER GAINS TOGETHER
The numbers get really amazing if we are all active together!
If just 250 residents walked 500 steps every day of a year, their combined walk would take you around the world.
And if 100 residents walked just 204 steps once a week for a year, their combined walk would get them from Lands End to John O’Groats.
Or if a family of four walked just 370 paces in total for each day of the year, they would go through the Eurotunnel to France and back again 10 times!
