Rose’s story
Rose is in her 80s, has a visual impairment and has become more socially isolated as her sight deteriorated. She has a history of falls which has affected her confidence to walk very far.
Rose was finding her stairs very steep and a potential hazard and she also lacked confidence to use her bath lift.
CPW: Rose
Rose’s Community Practice Worker (CPW) referred her to the Get Fit Avoid Falls programme. The 10-week programme is designed to improve strength and balance as well as show how to recover and get up from a fall.
To help with her social isolation the CPW referred Rose to Contact the Elderly so that she could join the social groups which are held monthly. Rose also joined the Bucks Vision social group and went to the Movers and Shakers Group which has one hour of craft, one hour of gentle exercise, and one hour for lunch.
The CPW contacted Occupational Therapy who were able to help Rose restore her confidence to use the bath lift. Rose is also on the waiting list for a stair lift assessment.
