National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP)

Getting the results

Once your child has been measured, you will receive the results via the online portal, usually available on the same day as the measurements. Full details on how to access the online portal will be within the invite letter.

*87% of parents find the information useful and 75% report an intention to make positive lifestyle changes after receiving the results

Body Mass Index centiles are used to tell us if a child’s weight is right for their height as they grow.

These centiles use a child’s age and sex as well as their height and weight to show whether your child is underweight, a healthy weight, overweight or very overweight.

When you get the results, you can speak to your child’s school nurse, GP or Be Healthy Bucks for further advice.

Please note data is securely held by Buckinghamshire Council as it helps to plan health services. All data is depersonalised and shared with the governments Department of Health and Social Care and NHS England, where they report on trends being seen across England. Any information published is anonymous, meaning individual children cannot be identified.

Should I share the results with my child?

The results are sent to you, so the decision about whether to talk to your child about them is entirely yours.

Some parents or carers like to discuss the results with their child and then decide together whether to make any changes to the family’s diet or activity levels.

Others decide to make small changes without telling them.

There’s no right or wrong answer, and the decision depends on your individual circumstance.
