Grow It, Cook It, Eat It

Mid-Summer

We defied the rather bleak forecast of rain showers. The task at hand needed determination as the wet weather throughout last 6 weeks had left a lot of undesirable weeds to be attacked. This was done with methodical approach of basket rapidly being filled and the placed on the compost heap, which now has compost activator to help to enrich it.

There was a very good amount of harvest yielded as well. Turnips, peas, beetroot, onions, and shallots had battle with some weeds and won the day. These crops were washed and layer out to dry, then eventually placed in the garden shed. Some of volunteers happily took some of the harvest.

An established lemon balm plant was added to the herbs plot.

The fruit trees are slowly beginning to get busy; these were all given a liquid feed. The raspberries were given extra support with canes. The runner beans also look in good shape and received some fine weeding. Dwarf beans were replanted for good harvest.

The garden shed received a grateful third appliance from our dedicated painter RW, he lovingly applied three tins of bronze metallic paint. Now looks the most handsome shed on the site !!

3 volunteers help us to have a very enjoyable day and the weather was kind all day.

What next: We all are thinking of Autumn planting.
