It is a requirement of Criteria 1 of The Health and Social Care Act 2008: Code of Practice of the prevention and control of infections and related guidance for all care providers to produce an annual statement of infection prevention processes and activity in their service/organisation. In social care settings this annual statement, which should be available for anyone who wishes to see it, including residents and regulatory authorities, does not need to be as detailed as one prepared for an acute health setting but should contain a short review of the following elements:

• any known outbreaks of infection;
• action taken following an outbreak of infection;
• audits undertaken and subsequent actions;
• risk assessments undertaken for prevention and control of infection;
• education and training received by staff; and
• review and update of policies, procedures and guidance This does not need to be a long document and this template may help you get you started in fulfilling this obligation.
