Introduction to Types of Support

There are many different types of support you can receive. From a friendly voice on the phone, to helpful equipment or someone to help with things around the house.

You can also get help to choose the right support for you in the first place. Free services like Prevention Matters or Safe+Well can provide help and advice. You can find information on this website, as well as links to other organisations offering advice and support.

Will it cost me money?

It depends what you choose to do. There are 4 main ways that care and support are paid for.

  1. Free services. There are a range of free services provided by charities, local groups or the council.
  2. You can pay. You can choose to pay for support yourself.
  3. The council. Depending on your needs, the council might pay towards your support. If you can afford to, you may need to pay a contribution towards the cost.
  4. NHS funding. Some types of care service are provided by the NHS.
